Women in Red Stockings
Commemorating 50 Years of Women’s Impact in Iceland
In 2025, we will mark half a century since women in Iceland paused both their paid and unpaid work, effectively halting society.
To commemorate this significant event, the film WOMEN IN RED STOCKINGS will be screened at the Aðalsafn Library in Reykjanesbær on Sunday, October 26.
This documentary explores the Icelandic Red Stockings movement that flourished throughout the 1970s. It delves into the movement’s history and addresses the key issues faced by women during that era.
Understanding the Status and Struggles of Women is a collaborative project of public libraries in Iceland to mark Women’s Year 2025. The project is funded by Rannís Library Fund.
