The Working Woman – Film screening

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Women’s Day, the Icelandic National Museum, the Icelandic Film Museum and the Icelandic Women’s History Museum are hosting a film screening and lecture titled Woman at Work. The event will take place in the National Museum’s lecture hall, on the ground floor of the museum, Tuesday October 21, from 12-13.

The film, The Working Woman, showcases individual clips of women in a variety of jobs at sea and in the countryside, as well as contemporary jobs as symbols of changing times and the obvious participation of women in society. This footage has previously not been available to the public. Gunnar Tómas Kristófersson, a specialist at the Icelandic Film Museum, will discuss the footage and its making. Rakel Adolphsdóttir, the director of the Icelandic Women’s History Museum, will give a lecture on women’s work and deepen our understanding of it’s significance.
