Gender and intersectionality in Women’s year: The third shift in heteronormative and queer partnerships
Gender Studies at the Faculty of Political Science, in collaboration with MARK – Centre for Diversity and Gender Research, invites you to a lecture series on gender and intersectionality in Women’s Year (Kvennaár).
This session focuses on Women’s Year’s priorities regarding unpaid work and care responsibilities, and presents research findings on cognitive labor or the “third shift” in heteronormative and queer partnerships.
The lecture will be given by Ragnheiður Davíðsdóttir, MA in Gender Studies. The title of her talk is: The Third Shift in Icelandic Households: Hidden Inequalities in the Gender Equality Paradise?
The panel discussion will include Gabríel Benjamín, representative from the equality committee of VR, and Anton Örn Karlsson, Head of Innovation at Statistics Iceland.
The session will be chaired by Finnborg S. Steinþórsdóttir, Assistant Professor in Gender Studies.
About the lecture series
Much has been achieved in gender equality over the past decades, and to support further progress it is useful to create a forum where researchers and stakeholders, who are already doing important work in this field, can review the current situation and discuss key challenges.
Women’s Year has set out priorities that can be divided into three areas: the underestimation of women’s work and pay equality; unpaid work and care responsibilities; and gender-based violence.
Each session will focus on one of these priorities, with gender and intersectionality perspectives in the foreground.
