Gender and intersectionality in the Women’s year: Inequality among women in Icelandic labour market

Gender Studies at the Faculty of Political Science, in collaboration with MARK – Centre for Diversity and Gender Research, invites you to a lecture series on gender and intersectionality in Women’s Year (Kvennaár).
This session focuses on Women’s Year’s priorities regarding underestimation of women’s work and pay equality.

The speaker will be Berglind Hólm Ragnarsdóttir, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Akureyri. Berglind’s lecture is titled: Inequality among Women in Iceland: Labor Market, Family, Finances, and Health.

The panel will include Sonja Ýr Þorbergsdóttir, Chair of BSRB, and Gundega Jaunlinina, Vice-Chair of the Hlíf Trade Union in Hafnarfjörður.

The session will be chaired by Finnborg S. Steinþórsdóttir, Assistant Professor in Gender Studies.

About the lecture series

Much has been achieved in gender equality over the past decades, and to support further progress it is useful to create a forum where researchers and stakeholders, who are already doing important work in this field, can review the current situation and discuss key challenges.

Women’s Year has set out priorities that can be divided into three areas: the underestimation of women’s work and pay equality; unpaid work and care responsibilities; and gender-based violence.

Each session will focus on one of these priorities, with gender and intersectionality perspectives in the foreground.
